Over the weekend I met up with my friends Jeff (Triplefo) AJ (UncledrewforMVP) John (ICANDODAT713), Cody (mynameisCody07) James (Suno23) and Daniel. We all met up at Choctaw Casino in Durant, Ok for a $240 $200,000 GTD tournament. first flight was Friday at noon. and I went to bed pretty early on Thursday night and set my alarm for 7:30 so i could leave by 8. But, I woke up early at around 6:15 with it raining really hard. So i went ahead and left just in case the rain was bad the whole way. Luckily it wasn't, but i got there like 2 hours early and had a bunch of time to kill.
On the plus side, I got a killer parking spot. Cody got there around 11. James and Daniel were already there. My starting table started off pretty soft. I was able to pick up a few pots early and get to 20k from a 15k starting stack in the first level or two. a couple of younger guys (one about my age, one a little younger maybe) got sat at my table. One of them was to my direct left and one about 3 to my right. The one to my right 3bet me a couple of times. He had been pretty aggressive but in pots that went deep into the hand he showed down AA one time and 77 another for a set. I kind of ended up dwindling down to 5k @ 200/400 and doubled up with KK. then the next hand i raise with QJs get 3bet by the guy to my direct left and then another guy calls. i decide to peel as the 3better had been aggressive but showing down weak hands. The flop comes JsTs3c and caller in the middle goes all in. i call. and 3better folds. he has KQss turn is Qc river 3s and i lose the pot.
I rebought and got sat at a new table. and immediately picked up a few chips with a straight with JT on 8937 board. Next hand i raise with QJs again. and dude calls in the BB and says "I check dark" which i immediately say "I check back dark" dude looks at me all confused. and the dealer puts out the flop. burns and turns. so we have a board of Q863. he checks to me. i bet 1500 he calls. River is a Ten and he bets 3000 i snap call and show him the Queen. he shows me a ten and mucks. I was able to squeeze a couple of times and take down a few more pots and get up to about 41k @ 400/800 before i got moved to another table. This table had a huge stack to my left. I dont remember the guys name but he's a dealer at winstar. he was your typical live player with a stack. Didn't really size bets well. But i made a huge mistake on this table. he raises to 3.5k @ 500/1000 2 callers i call from the BB with KQo. the flop comes KQ5. I check, he checks, older guy bets 15k into a pot of around 14k. one fold. i just pile it in. big stack folds and old guy snap calls and i know im beat. he turns over 55 and i dont catch up. Im done until Saturday
James picked up a big stack early but faltered late. Daniel and Cody both bagged around 80k
AJ and his girlfriend got there at some point in the day. After eating food we all went and bowled at the new bowling alley in the casino. it was fun. But being the lazy bum i am. I was sore for a few days. how sad
on to the second day 1.
i started on what felt like a really soft table, I had a guy i had played with before on my table, His name is Pedro. he's an okay player just a little spewy in spots (but aren't we all?) i was up and down early on this table. my peak here was about 26k after i had QQ vs another players AK and flop was QTT.
I eventually got moved tables and had 17k @ 300/600 when i raise with JJ UTG. it folds to MP spewy guy who 3bets to 4100. folds to me I 4bet all in. and he beats me into the pot. he turns over 99 and rivers a 9. Ending my tournament.
Jeff and John both bagged.. Of the four who bagged only jeff cashed in 43rd place for $1,050. Another friend/acquaintance of mine named Geno won the tournament. Ive never met Geno. But he lives just about 30 minutes away from me and have talked to him quite a bit online. Nice guy.
After eating dinner i went ahead and came home so i could play online on Sunday. It didnt go well on Sunday. But didn't go bad either. Shout out to my buddy Jeremey (Lesterdrugs) for getting 2nd in the Bovada $5.50 $5,000 GTD marathon on Sunday. I made a little Monday. Then on Tuesday i was having an okay day. and kind of limped my way along in the $22 10k and finally got a stack late and ended up getting 2nd for ~$1600. 3rd time ive gotten 2nd in that tourney. pretty frustrating but happy at the same time. As AJ said this morning. "If you ever learn to win HU, you'll have to move into a new tax bracket"
Anyways thats all that's going on in my world. Hope all is well with all of you

I haven't really said much about the end of the endint of the Texas Rangers season, the bat flip or any of that nonsense.
Any Rangers fan that is mad about the Bautista bat flip is a hypocrite. Any home run that Rougned Odor hit this season, you can go on twitter and see 30 tweets of #batflip or something close to that. What i do have an issue with is standing at home plate staring at the pitcher, not the ball flying into.outter space mind you. But staring at the pitcher seemingly looking to.start sheit. My thought is that when you get into the playoffs, regardless if you habe or not, its time to act like you've been there before. Odor, Alberto, and Deshields, all under the age of 24, and in their firat playoff moments had no problem acting civilized and like they belonged there. Obviously they arent the only ones that act the right way. But they really stood out to me. Am i a homer? Absolutely. But im going to.say what i see and feel.
Moving on. Daily fantasy sports has been giving a cease and desist order from Nevada, and i noticed when i put in a lineup the other day that several other states have banned DFS as well. I dont play big money or anything. Usually just 25 cent and dollar games. But i wonder how many more states are going to jump on the banning.
This month has been stellar for me poker wise. I played live on Saturday and made $800 in 6 hours. Played today and made $124 in a few hours. Ive had some interesting hands that have been fun. I havent played a ton live. In the few tourneys ive played i have one five figure score and a couple of small daily tourneys for 4 figures. But i dont have a ton of experience live. Ill have to say that with the extent i do have of it, is like playing on bovada, but 10 times worse.
heading to Choctaw this weekend for the $240 200k, if i brick both day 1s then ill reg the $125 50k 2nd day 1. Best case scenario, I bag on Friday and can spend saturday nitting it up in cash games.
That's all i got for now. Hope all is well

Yesterday was my birthday. I don't really get caught up on it being a special day. After all. Its just one of 365 every year. I've kind of developed the attitude on Sundays that i should be in shot taking mode and play less volume.
So yesterday i played only 8 or 10 tourneys. I cashed in only one, being the $162 $100,000. I never really had much of a stack to work with. But was able to survive and ended up busting in 33rd. It was only the 3rd or 4th time ive played it but i seem to run deep in it everytime. Anyways I cashed for $634 or something. which gave me a $350 profit on the day. So i won't complain.
Today is Mad Monday on Bovada. I'm registered for 25 games. Although i likely will be unregging some if i get deep in some late evening. I tend to unregister the late evening turbos if i get deep in longer formats. I took off on Thursday Friday and Saturday last week. I wasn't feeling great and didn't really feel great yesterday either. Today i woke up feeling lots better.
Going forward the next couple of weeks ill be playing 4-5 days a week then the weekend of Oct 23-25 ill be headed to Durant, OK for the Choctaw Fall Classic. I'll be playing a $240 $200k GTD. I'd assume its about $40-50k up top. It would be a good one to win. But, regardless of how i do. I'll have fun getting to see all my buddies again.
Let's go Rangers!

Is this how Shin Soo Choo has felt for the last 2 months?
Anyone who knows me and talks to me with any regularity knows about the downswing that i was on from around the end of May until last Monday. I haven't exactly been easy to be around, or talk to for that matter.
I kind of equate my upswing the last week as how it may have felt for Shin Soo Choo coming out of his slump after the all star break. At the end of April, he was hitting a mere .094 and not much better at the end of May. He was moved all over the batting order in the first half of the season just to try and find something that worked for him and could help him click. he ended the season at around .278 which is an incredible turnaround.
Now, obviously comparing baseball to poker is like comparing an orange to a banana. Is my recent turn around due to changes made in my game? Is it just running good? I'd venture to say that it's probably a combination of the two things among other things.
The day before my upswing started, my closest of all my poker related friends, and in all actuality probably one of my closest friends poker related or not, shipped the OPS $215 main event on Carbon poker. After watching him win that, when i went to bed Sunday night I was super motivated. I wanted to get up and start grinding right then. I made up my mind that my upswing was starting then.
I'd venture to say that my upswing this last 7 or 8 days is a combo of all of those things rolled into one. When i'm downswinging, I am not easy to be around. Probably more because i expect better results of myself. I hold myself to a very high standard. Anyone who doesn't have an ego in this game won't last very long. That's all there is to it.
Til next time
